Indoor palms want bright indirect light, steady moisture and protection from cold drafts. They are slow, long-lived and largely undemanding, but they do not recover from damage the way foliage plants do — a browned frond stays browned.

Common problems

Brown tips: water quality or dry air. Whole yellowing fronds low down: normal ageing, or overwatering if widespread. Webbing between fronds: spider mites, which spread fast on palms and need treating promptly.
