What a residential plant designer actually resolves
Residential interior plant design determines where plants belong, what scale and species the room can support, which vessels reinforce the interior, how the installation will be protected and maintained, and which areas should not receive live plants at all.

From specimen trees to layered compositions
Some rooms need one commanding specimen. Others benefit from a disciplined grouping of related plants and vessels. We design architectural trees, floor plants, console compositions, shelf plantings, stair-landings, interior courtyards, home offices, and connected whole-home schemes without overfilling the interior.
Plants are selected as specimens—not SKUs
Form matters. Trunk character, branching, leaf density, balance, maturity, and overall silhouette determine whether a plant can hold the room. We source with those visual criteria in mind and reject specimens that do not meet the design standard, even when the species is technically correct.
The vessel carries equal visual weight
A planter can make an exceptional plant look ordinary or give an ordinary placement architectural authority. We consider handmade terracotta, limestone, ceramic, metal, fiberglass, concrete, and other vessel types according to the room, weight, drainage, maintenance access, and installation requirements.
White-glove installation and continuity of care
Plants are prepared with the appropriate substrate, liner, drainage strategy, top dressing, staking, and surface protection. Delivery and installation are coordinated to protect the home and furnishings. Clients may receive a clear care plan or enroll in Residential Plant Concierge for recurring professional oversight.
Questions Prospects Ask Before Moving Forward
How large can an indoor tree be?
The correct scale depends on ceiling height, door and elevator access, floor loading, available light, planter dimensions, and the mature form of the species. Trendy Gardener works with medium and large interior specimens, including trees approaching approximately 8.5 feet where the site can support them.
Will you recommend grow lights?
Yes, when supplemental light is required to achieve the intended plant type or placement. Lighting must be selected for output, beam spread, color appearance, fixture location, and daily operating schedule—not simply labeled as a “grow light.”
Can you source a planter before selecting the plant?
Sometimes, but the strongest result is developed as a pairing. Root-ball size, plant form, installation method, liner, drainage, and visual proportion all influence the vessel specification.
