Syngonium Care Guides

Syngonium wants medium to bright indirect light and soil that dries partway down between waterings. It is one of the easiest aroids to keep and one of the fastest to become leggy if the light is too low.

Arrowhead vine changes shape as it matures — juvenile leaves are arrow-shaped and compact, mature climbing growth becomes lobed and much larger. Whether you get the mature form depends entirely on whether you give it something to climb.

What they share

Tolerance of average humidity. Fast growth in the growing season. Willingness to root from cuttings in water. Toxic to cats and dogs.

Common problems

Long trailing stems with sparse leaves mean too little light — cut back hard and it will bush out. Pale washed-out pink cultivars need more light to hold colour. Yellowing lower leaves usually mean overwatering.
